Calvert County Bar Association

This scholarship is located in the Guidance AP Seminar room in the scholarship drawer.  Qualified applicants are seniors who display good character and conduct, perform service to school and the community, demonstrate academic achievement and potential and have financial need.  This is a $1000 scholarship!

Seniors will need 2 letters of recommendation (one from a school-based person and one from a community-based person), an essay stating educational and career goals, a transcript with SAT/ACT scores and a copy of the FAFSA or SAR (student aid report).

Applications must be received by April 9, 2012.

Elvear B. Johnson, Ph.D. Scholarship

This is a $500 scholarship to be awarded to a senior with a 3.0 GPA or better who has demonstrated community or extracurricular involvement who plans to attend a four year university or college as a full-time student.

Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation (one from a school based person and one from the community), a wallet size photograph and a one page essay on why you chose education as a career choice OR a one page essay describing a community service project.

The deadline is March 30, 2012.

Southern Maryland Chain Chapter The Links Inc.

Three to six scholarships of $500 to $1000 are awarded each year by this service organization.  Applicants must demonstrate academic excellent, a social commitment to community service, the potential for leadership and the need for a financial source to help offset the initial cost of college expenses.

The deadline is April 2, 2012; applications are available in the AP Seminar Room scholarship drawer.

National Association of Women Business Owners

Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to female high school seniors planning to attend a university who have demonstrated entrepreneurial talents and live in Maryland.

Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship


This scholarship is for student's who have volunteered their time and efforts to contribute to the community in a meaningful way.  Each Student must be nominated by someone aged 21 years or older. Parents may nominate their own children. Associates of Kohl’s Department Stores, Inc. and/or Associates’ immediate family members are ineligible.

Nominations: The nomination form can be accessed at Kohlskids.com.  Forms must be completed, submitted and signed electronically (by typing your name) no later than 11:59 pm CST, March 15, 2012, by a nominator who is 21 years or older. One nomination form should be submitted per Student. Nomination
forms containing multiple names will not be accepted. One nominator may nominate multiple Students by submitting multiple nomination forms. Each form must contain a unique email address for the Student being nominated. All sections of the nomination form must be completed.  The volunteer activity must have occurred within the last 12 months (March 16, 2011 – March 15, 2012).

Awards range from $50 Kohl's gift cards to $9000 for national award winners.

Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarship

This is a $1000 scholarship to be awarded from the Association of School Business Officials; at least one award will go to an education major.

Criteria:  scholastic achievement (minimum 3.0), financial need, SAT/ACT scores and quality of extra-curricular achievements.  A 500 word typed essay is required explaining why he/she is uniquely qualified to receive this scholarship.

Calvert Local Scholarships Application (LSA)

This is a "common application" for over 25 different scholarships local to Calvert County.  Applicants submit one set of materials including:  the Calvert Local Scholarship Application, a sealed high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, the Student Aid Report from a completed FAFSA, a student resume, two letters of recommendation (one from a school based person and one from a community based person), an essay or personal statement.


The deadline for this common scholarship application is March 16, 2012.


Application is completed online at www.somdcan.org and printed out.  Submit all materials to your school counselor.

Concerned Black Men of Calvert County

The mission of the Concerned Black Men of Calvert County is to provide a holistic approach to services which support and strengthen the African-American family and which specifically targets African-American youth.  Applicants for this scholarship must have maintained a 2.0 or better GPA over the last two years of high school, demonstrate financial/economic need, character/conduct, participation in school and community activities, attributes of good citizenship, good academics, responsibility, the ability to work with others and evidence of part-time employment.  Three letters of recommendation are required:  two from school officials and one from a member of the community who knows the applicant outside of school.

The deadline is April 7, 2012.

The Optimist Club of Calvert Vocational Award

This scholarship is worth $1250.00 and will be awarded to a senior who completed a career technology program at the "Calvert Career Center."  This scholarship must be used for advanced training at any trade school, technical school or community college.

Applicants for this scholarship will be judged on qualities of character, citizenship, and scholastic ability.  Other considerations include financial need and thoughtfulness in completing the application form.  A one page essay is required stating your future educational plans and occupational goals.  List any jobs you held during the past 4 years and whether you intend to work while going to college next fall.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program

College Bound and Community-Minded?  The Buick Achievers Program wants to recognize you!  100 scholarships up to $25,000/year each and 1,000 scholarships each at $2000 will be awarded nationally.  

Applicants must be engineering, technology, design or business majors with an interest in the automotive industry.

Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals

This scholarship is for elementary school education majors.  Eligible seniors must attend a Maryland college.  Applicants must write a one page essay or less as to your beliefs and commitment toward educating all students.  Transcripts, SAT/ACT scores and two letters of recommendation are required.

This is a $1000 scholarship; the deadline is April 13, 2012.

Concerned Black Women of Calvert County

The goal of the Concerned Black Women of Calvert County is to provide academic scholarships to persons of African-American heritage to pursue an education at four year institutions of higher learning.  Seniors must have a college letter of acceptance, a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, two letters of recommendation, a 400-500 word essay, a wallet size photograph and transcript.

This scholarship will be awarded to one senior at each of the four high schools; the amount is $1500.00.  The deadline is April 14, 2012.
