SYB Scholarship

The SYB Club of Lusby will be offering merit-based scholarships for the 2018-2019
academic year for eligible Patuxent and Calvert High School students.



Eligible applicants:


 - Must have participated in a SYB sports program


 - Must apply and attend as a full-time student for the 2018-2019 academic year in an
accredited institution, such as a two or four year undergraduate college, a visual or
performing arts school, or a vocational/technical school. 


Award: $500

Delegate Scholarship Program: District 29C

DEADLINE: April 15, 2019

This application is for the Delegate Scholarship Program of Maryland in Delegate Clark's district.

You must:
  • Be pursuing a degree at an undergraduate (2 or 4 yr) institute, graduate program, or career/trade school in the state of MD. Can pursue a unique major at an out of state school.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours.
  • Reside in Delegate Clark's District of 29C

The Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarships

DEADLINE: March 1, 2019

Ten scholarships are awarded each year to an individual enrolled in an approved program leading to teacher certification.

Eligibility:
  • Been residents of Maryland or the District of Columbia for at least one year preceding the date of award
  • Been accepted for admission as a full time student
  • Demonstrated a financial need
  • A minimum 3.0 overall GPA (High School Seniors)
Your completed application packet must include:

  • Copy of most current high school/college transcript
  • Copies of parents' and applicants' 2016 income tax returns
  • Copy of acceptance letter from an accredited institution of higher education in MD or DC
  • A 500-word typed essay by the applicant explaining why he or she is uniquely qualified to receive the scholarship. The essay must include academic achievements and activities; community and civic activities; and personal aims and goals

The Ira Rosenzwog Memorial Scholarship Fund

DEADLINE: April 17, 2019


The Ira Rosenzwog Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 as a memorial to Ira Rosenzwog for his many years of volunteerism and financial contributions to the Epilepsy Foundation in Maryland. The scholarship fund was created to assist college students and others who have epilepsy to further their education. Epilepsy Foundation Maryland is providing this opportunity with the hope that it will encourage people in Maryland with epilepsy to pursue a college education.

ELIGIBILITY:

• The applicant must have a diagnosis of epilepsy supported by documentation from their treating physician.
• Applicant must submit an essay along with an application form. 

• A minimum grade point average of 2.5 must be maintained in order to continue the tuition assistance.

In order to apply for the We the Students Scholarship, you must be between the ages of 14 and 19. This contest is open to all US Citizens or legal residents who are between these ages and attending school in grades 8-12.

Esperanza Education Fund Scholarship

DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2020

The Esperanza Education Fund will again award scholarships of at least $5000 and up to $20,000 to immigrant students in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia to attend public colleges and universities.  Students are eligible for the scholarship regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Inc. Omega Pi Omega Chapter CAP

DEADLINE: JANUARY 11, 2019

Calvert County's Omega Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is seeking high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors for its signature program (College Admissions Process) who need assistance with their efforts to enter college by providing hands-on guidance.

Omega Pi Omega Chapter members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will assist students in completing college applications, preparing for the ACT and SAT, writing compelling personal statements, identifying scholarships and other financial aid, and compiling a portfolio to track college admission results. Monthly meetings will be required.

The Deb Sheftz Memorial Scholarship

DEADLINE: April 1, 2019 The Deb Sheftz Memorial Scholarship*         
  The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $2500 for post-high school education.  One scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating student from Patuxent High School.  The scholarship will be awarded the end of May of each year and will be paid directly to the educational institution for first year college expenses. 
    Requirements:
    1. PHS senior (or junior if graduating early).
    2. Application and acceptance to college (prior to final award and payment of scholarship).
    3. Commitment to social justice and improving our world.
    Procedure-the submitted application must be submitted no later than Monday, April 1, 2019 and must include:
    1. Completed application (available at the guidance office).
    1. An essay or other original work addressing one of the questions on the application
    1. A letter from a teacher that addresses not only your academics but your passions and interests.

Applications are due by the April 1, 2019 and should be turned into the guidance office.

Hamilton Relay Scholarship

DEADLIN: January 18, 2019


Creating opportunities for higher education is a priority for Hamilton Relay. The goal of the Hamilton Relay Scholarship is to support students who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking in their post-secondary education.

The Hamilton Relay Scholarship is extended to a qualifying high school student living within one of the states where Hamilton Relay is the contracted telecommunications relay and/or captioned telephone service provider.

Reward: $500

Cohen & Jaffe Scholarship

Cohen & Jaffe, LLP College Scholarship
The Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP Scholarship Program is designed to help high school students (upon graduation from high school) or college students who are interested in attending an institution of higher education. We value education as a vital foundation for creating fulfilling, advantageous careers. We are proud and excited to help students achieve their goals of furthering their education.
Eligibility – Applicants must meet the following Criteria:
  • -Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent U.S. resident.
  • -Be accepted to an institution of higher learning.
  • -Be graduating high school or receiving GED within 9 months.
  • -A two or four-year college student enrolled in a US-institution for undergraduate studies.
  • Employees of the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP, Consultwebs.com, Inc., their boards of directors and immediate family members are not eligible for this essay contest.
Requirements:
The following documents must be provided for consideration (.doc, .docx, or .pdf format only) to the attention of Richard Jaffe via email only to Scholarship@cohenjaffe.com.
  • -An official copy of a current academic transcript.
  • -Proof of legal residency in U.S. (i.e. birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, permanent resident card, etc.).
  • -Proof of acceptance to an institution of higher learning. Should a winner be chosen that is still waiting on an acceptance letter, candidate will have until June 19, 2019 to provide proof of acceptance before forfeiting the prize.
  • -A one-page essay of no less than 500 and no more than 750 words on one of the following topics:
  1. General
  1. How was your life affected (by either you or someone you care about) that was was injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence. How did this accident have an impact on your life? What did you learn from it and how did it help your grow?
  1. Distracted Driving
  1. Everyone is aware of the dangers of drinking and driving, however, many people continue to make the decision to drive under the influence. Write an essay about the reasons why people continue to drink and drive – and what initiatives could be executed to address those reasons.
  1. Sports Injuries
  1. Do you think that there is enough emphasis on safety in sports to prevent concussions? What do you think we should do to curb concussions in high school athletics?
Award:
A total of five prizes will be awardedOne applicant will be awarded a $1000 scholarship for first prize, one applicant will be awarded $500 for runner-up, and three applicants will be awarded $250 for honorable mention. Law Firm Scholarship award recipients will be notified of the selection on or before June 7, 2019.The Law Firm Scholarship is to be used exclusively for tuition at an institution of higher learning and related expenses such as books, supplies, etc. An award check will be made payable to the award recipient’s school and/or supplier of books, supplies, etc. to cover these expenses. Award winners are expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.
