The Calvert Local Area Scholarship site has a variety of different local scholarships for students.
Local means- Calvert County. Your chances of obtaining one or more of these scholarships is greater because you are only in competition with students at PHS and the other 3 high schools. Don't miss out.

Maryland State Society Daughters of the American Revolution

Masonic Charities of Maryland Scholarship

 The  Masonic Charities of Maryland  Annual Scholarship Program  has an application deadline of March 4th. 2022. 

Nearly $70,000 will be awarded to Maryland public high school graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education. One hundred finalists from public schools across the entire state will be selected. Each finalist will receive a $500 scholarship. From these one hundred finalists, six regional winners will be selected to receive an additional $1500 scholarship. From these six, three students will be selected to receive additional scholarships of $1500, $2,500 and of $5,000 presented at our Scholarship Reception in the month of May. Our top two students will receive total scholarships of $4,500 and $7,000. 


Paper applications can be found in the Guidance office, in the Career and College room in the Scholarship Drawer.

Optimist Club of Solomons - Kenny Hoofnagle Scholarship

 DEADLINE FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP: April 30th, 2022


The Optimist Club of Solomons awards a $2,000 ($500 per year of attendance) scholarship to provide financial assistance to a student graduating from Patuxent High School who plans to go to a 4 year college.

Lillie M. Sawyer Teacher Scholarship

 DEADLINE: JULY 1st 2021

This scholarship is for graduating seniors who are interested in the field of education. 

To apply the following hard copies or printed documents are necessary:

  • Official Transcript. Include an official "sealed" copy of your current academic transcript. (Unofficial copies will not be accepted.)

  • Three Letters of Recommendation. At least two letters must be from school (teacher/counselor). One letter Clergy or other Community Leader. Letters of recommendation should be original and should not be duplicates of college recommendation letters. (Letters must be on letterhead.) 

  • Proof of Financial Need  (W-2 form or other verification of earnings)

  • ​Letter of acceptance from College or University

  • 500 Word Essay Topic: “What a Career in Teaching Would Mean to Me" (including how you feel you can impact the education of students in the 21st century)
