Masonic Charities of Maryland, Inc.

Masonic Educational Grants in the amount of $1000 are being awarded to seniors who plan to attend a two or four year college or a vocational/technical school.  Applicants are judged on the following criteria in order of importance:  1. Participation and leadership roles in community and school activities; 2.  content of a personal resume; 3.  academic record; 4.  need for financial assistance; 5.  evaluation by a school official; 6.  organization, appearance and completeness of the application.

Applications are available in the scholarship drawer in guidance.  The deadline is March 15, 2012

SMECO Scholarship

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) will select four high school seniors in their service area to receive $1500 scholarships based on scholastic achievement, financial need, and community and school involvement.  Applicants must invlude proof of residency, a letter of acceptance to a college or technical school, the Student Aid Report (SAR) from submitting the FAFSA, a one page essay, typed, double-spaced titled "Why Is a College Education Important to Completing my Lifetime Goals," and two letters of reference.  Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Applications are available in the AP Seminar Room in guidance or at http://www.smeco.coop/

Gram's Promise Scholarship

As in past years, Gram's Promise is looking forward to awarding the Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Frist Memorial Scholarship to deserving seniors in 2012. Maryland high school seniors who are tobacco-free and have demonstrated a commitment to anti-smoking advocacy are encouraged to apply. Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship

The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship applications advance through local, district and state competitions to reach the national competition.  Successful applicants demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership and have financial need in order to attend college.  Scholarship awards range from $4000 up to $60,000 (for 4 years).  Deadline is December 2, 2011.

U.S. Navy Wings Over America Scholarship

If your parent is currently serving or has served in the Navy in an aviation command (squadron, naval air station, carrier, etc.) you could be eligible to apply for a Wings Over America Scholarship.  Complete information and eligibility requirements are available online at http://www.wingsoveramerica.us/ - deadline for pre-qualification form is March 1, 2012; completed application deadline is April 1, 2012.

American Legion Oratorical Scholarship - "A Constitutional Speech Contest"

This scholarship is a unique opportunity for students grades 9-12 interested in government and U.S. History.  This contest consists of two parts:  the prepared oration and the assigned topic.  Students deliver an 8-10 minute prepared oration on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution with emphasis on the duties and obligations of a citizen to our government.  The assigned topic is a 3-5 minute discourse on some article or amendment to the Constitution.  Students compete locally, regionally, at the state level and at the national level and receive cash prizes up to $18,000!!!

AXA Achievement Scholarships

AXA Achievement Scholarship - due by December 1, 2011!!  A winner will be selected from every state; scholarships of $10,000 and $25,000!!

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship - due February 1, 2012!!  Up to 375 winners nationwide; scholarships of $2000!!

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  An annual scholarship in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded to a deserving student athlete who will be going to college and who currently is involved in some sport at school or in the community.  The deadline for this scholarship is June 22, 2012.  To apply go to http://www.bigsunathletics.com/

Principal’s Leadership Scholarship Award

Nominations are being sought for the 2011-2012 Principal’s Leadership Scholarship Award. Scholarships range from $1000 to $12,000 and will be awarded to 100 outstanding seniors nationwide. In order to be considered for the nomination, please submit your high school resume to Ms. Nusser in the Guidance office. The deadline to submit your resume is November 21st.

Please be advised that in most instances student will need to pick up the physical copies of the scholarships in our guidance career room.
