Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarship

Deadline: January 15, 2019


The Maryland State Society Daughters of the American Revolution will be awarding $1000 scholarships to Maryland residents.

 A 3.0 GPA is expected as well as goals toward earning an Associates or Bachelor's degree. 

This is a renewable scholarship. 

The application process includes the completion of the application as well as other required including 3 letters of recommendations from a teacher, school counselor, principal, or coach. 

Volunteer work in the community as well as being an active member in a group such as scouts, yearbook, church etc. are encouraged. 

The application is available in the guidance college career room in the scholarship drawer.

BigSun Scholarship

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.


The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..

The Recovery Village Health Care Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2019 

Description 
A $1,000 award will be given to a student pursuing a health-related degree program. Areas of study 
that will be considered include, but are not limited to, counseling, social work, emergency medicine,
 pre-med, nursing, psychology (with a focus on addiction counseling or a substance-abuse related field). 
Applicants must submit an essay no more than 500 words describing why they are passionate about health 
care, with a focus on substance abuse and mental health. Essays can draw from personal or professional
 experience.  

Eligibility & Requirements 
In order to be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:  
  • U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident 
  • Enrolled or accepted in an accredited college or university and plan to continue enrollment 
  • Consent to a talent release and be willing to provide a digital photograph and quote for 
  • display on Advanced Recovery Systems (ARS) websites if notified as the winner 
  • Graduating high school seniors who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply 

Selection & Awards 
Award selection will be based upon:  
  • Completed application 
  • Originality (20%) 
  • Creativity (20%) 
  • Writing Skills (20%) 
  • Inspiration (20%) 
  • Demonstrated interest in addiction treatment and recovery (20%) 
The winner will be notified following the deadline and the award will be credited to the student’s school. 
Certain information must be provided by the student to The Recovery Village in order for the school
 to receive the funds.

Hamilton Relay Scholarship

DEADLINE: JANUARY 28, 2019

Hamilton Relay Scholarship
Hamilton Relay Scholarship: $500

The goal of the Hamilton Relay Scholarship is to support students who are deaf, hard of
hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking in their post-secondary education. The
Hamilton Relay Scholarship is extended to qualifying high school students living within
each of the states where Hamilton Relay is the contracted Telecommunications Relay
and/or Captioned Telephone service provider. Hamilton Relay selects one recipient from
each state annually.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is deaf, hard of
hearing, deaf-blind or has difficulty speaking.

2. Applicant must be a resident of one of the following states: CA, DC, GA, ID,
IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MT, NM, NV, PA, TN, VA, or WA.

3. Applicant must complete and submit application, essay, letter of
recommendation and signed talent release form to be eligible.

4. Scholarship will be awarded to the selected applicant in each state after the
Hamilton Relay Scholarship Committee reviews all applications submitted on
or before the posted deadline.

Guidelines for Hamilton Relay Scholarship
1. Application packet must be completed and postmarked by January 28, 2019
and must include all of the following items:

a. Scholarship Application

b. Letter of Recommendation from faculty staff member at high school or
from employer

c. One page essay as required (topic assigned on application)

d. Signed Talent Release Form

2. Mail the application and attachments to:

3. Scholarship award recipients must complete and return a “Scholarship
Recipient Agreement Form” and provide a copy of their Letter of Acceptance

SMECO Scholarship


Deadline: April 12, 2019

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) will select seven high school seniors in their service area to interview and possibly receive $1500 scholarships based on scholastic achievement, financial need, and community and school involvement.  


Applicants must include...

  • Proof of residency 
  • A letter of acceptance to a college or technical school
  • A Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA
  • A one page essay, typed, double-spaced titled "Why Is a College Education Important to Completing my Lifetime Goals"
  • Two letters of reference (minimum)
Applicants must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
