Maryland Multicultural Coalition 2018

This organization promotes and supports the education that is multicultural as a means of achieving the full academic potential of every learner in Maryland by sharing knowledge and resources, fostering appreciation of diversity and advocating for educational equity.

Requirements:
  • Must be a resident of Maryland.
  • Must intend to teach P-12 upon completion of undergraduate degree.
  • Must have 3.4 GPA or higher.
  • Proof that you have been accepted to a college and intend to studying teaching at that school.
  • Two letters of recommendation required.

The Northrop Grumman Scholars program

 The Northrop Grumman Scholars program will award an $8,000 scholarship over the course of four years ($2,000 per year with ongoing eligibility requirements) to one graduating high school student planning to pursue a degree in engineering at an institution of higher learning, in each Maryland County and Baltimore City. 

Attached is the brochure to distribute in your county.  Please have your high school guidance department distribute the brochures and publicize this opportunity to qualifying students.  Also, please advise if there are any internal communications or newsletter contacts to increase visibility of this opportunity for students.

The JRF application is the vehicle through which more than 4,000 talented young minority high school students apply to become JRF Scholars and carry on the civic-minded legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Jackie Robinson.

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship

Scholarship amount: $1,000 

We will award this scholarship to the applicant who best demonstrates:
+ A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics
+ A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare

This scholarship is local and you must be a child, grandchild or ward of an honorably discharged service person, MIA,POW,KIA, killed on active duty or current member of the US Armed Forces or the parent, grandparent or guardian must be a current or past member of the American Legion Post #274 in Lusby.

Must be admitted to college or university and taking at least 12 credits or attend a vocational or technical school.

The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students.  This award is available to all students, regardless of their field of study.

Maryland State Society Daughters of the American Revolution


The Maryland State Society Daughters of the American Revolution will be awarding $1000 scholarships to Maryland residents. A 3.0 GPA is expected as well as goals toward attending an Associates or Bachelor's degree. This is a renewable scholarship. The application process includes the completion of the application as well as other required including 3 letters of recommendations from a teacher, School Counselor, Principal, or Coach, volunteer work in the community as well as being an active member in a group such as scouts, yearbook, church etc.

Maryland JCI Senate Scholarship

Maryland Farm Bureau 2018 Scholarship

 Deadline: February 1, 2018 no later than 4:00 pm

The Maryland Farm Bureau will be offering 5 scholarships worth $2,000 each. Applicants or their parents/guardians MUST be members of the Farm Bureau. Three of the scholarships will be offered to agricultural Curriculum majors and two scholarships will be offered to non-agricultural or agricultural curriculum majors.

Requirements:

  • a current photo
  • An essay on "with 3 to 5 generations removed from the farm, how do you see your role as an advocate for agriculture to minimize the knowledge gap between farmers and consumers and promote a more positive image for agriculture?"

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) will select seven high school seniors in their service area to interview and possibly receive $1500 scholarships based on scholastic achievement, financial need, and community and school involvement.  



Applicants must include...


  • Proof of residency 
  • A letter of acceptance to a college or technical school
  • A Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA
  • A one page essay, typed, double-spaced titled "Why Is a College Education Important to Completing my Lifetime Goals"
  • Two letters of reference (minimum)
Applicants must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Patuxent High School PTSA Scholarship


Deadline for this scholarship is April 21, 2017 at 2:30pm

This scholarship can be awarded to any student at PHS who is a PTSA member. You must be a member for at least 2 consecutive years.

Any high school senior can apply for this $500.00 scholarship to be used for an accredited institution which provides a two or four year program of studies or vocational training.

Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:

1. Leadership in the community and school activities
2. the content of a personal resume

4. Need for financial assistance
5. Evaluation by a school official (Principal of School Counselor)
6. Organization, appearance and completeness of the application.

A $5,000 winner and a $2,500 winner will be chosen from all local winners.

Concerned Black Men of Calvert County Scholarship

Deadline April 29, 2020

This is a $1000 scholarship awarded to African American students who have a minimum 2.0 or better GPA over the last two (2) years of high school.  This scholarship can be renewed if the student maintains a "B" average during freshman year of college.

Applicants must provide letter(s) of acceptance; three (3) letters of recommendation (2 academic and 1 community); high school resume; brief essay; a wallet sized picture and a high school transcript.

Optimist Club Of Calvert Career/Vocational/Technical Scholarship

 This award must be used for advanced training at any trade school or community college that is approved by the Optimist Club.

This scholarship is a need based scholarship.

  • The Federal Student Aid Report (FAFSA) (SAR) is used as a basis for determining eligibility.Please see your School Counselor if you need assistance with the FAFSA.

If you are a senior, you should be looking at this scholarship application. There are a variety of different local scholarships. Local meaning Calvert County. Your chances of obtaining one or more of these scholarships is greater because you are only in competition with students at PHS and the other 3 high schools. Don't miss out.

Delegate Gerald "Jerry" Clark Scholarship

All applications must be received by April 15th, 2017

Must be a resident of District 29C for your application to be processed. A completed FAFSA and an official transcript are also required. A committee from the Delegate's office will determine from the applications how this money will be dispersed. 


Who may apply: Current high school seniors and full-time or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students. Students attending a private career school may also apply.

You and your parents (if you are a dependent student) must be Maryland residents. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student, or attend certain private career schools.

American Society of Military Comptrollers - Southern Maryland Chapter


Application Deadline: April 14, 2017


This Chapter is offering scholarship awards for those high school seniors getting ready to pursue a degree in business or finance related degrees. If chosen for this scholarship, seniors also have the opportunity to apply for national scholarships.

Students must:

- Be a senior living in the tri-county area
- Major on business or finance
- Have 3 letters of recommendations
- Must be in good standing at your school.
- Have been accepted to a college at the time of application deadline.

An interview with the scholarship committee is required as well as agreeing, if given this local scholarship, to go on to the national scholarship.

Locally, this scholarship is worth $500.00. Nationally, scholarships can range from $1,000-$3,000.

Deb Sheftz Memorial Scholarship

Deadline for this scholarship is April 3, 2017

Amount of award is $2500


This is a special scholarship only for Patuxent High students. Ms. Sheftz died on December 6, 2014 unexpectedly. Ms. Sheftz was influential to many students throughout her career, especially here at Patuxent as a history teacher. She was committed to addressing the issues of inequality and social injustice rather than ignoring them. Ms. Sheftz looked for the best in all, whether it be her students, friends or strangers and encouraged everyone to strive to be their best selves. This scholarship was created to help a PHS student, who wants to be an instrument of positive change and fight against injustice, to attend college and be a positive influence on the world.

Requirements to apply:

1. Must be a PHS student
2. Acceptance to a college prior to award being given
3. Commitment to social justice and improving the world.
4. An essay or original work addressing given social justice issues.
5. A recommendation letter from a teacher.

Maryland Emergency Management Association 2017 Student Scholarship Program
